Tens of thousands of abandoned crab traps, sometimes called ghost pots, litter the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay. Many traps continue catching and detaining marine life, potentially claiming a sizable chunk of the crab population each year. Given that Maryland and Virginia resource managers are working to help the crab populations recover from a steep decline, that's a problem.
